Introduction to PLUM

Temperate weather is relatively moderate and average annual temperature. It is called Aloo Bukhara and Aloocha in Hindi, PLUM (Plum) in English, Prune in French, Its botanical name is Prunus Domestica.
Appearance & Types
This fruit is dark red in India and in other countries it is also black, yellow and purple in color. Its peel is soft. In ‘Charak Samhita’ its effect is not hot, so it destroys bile and phlegm in our body. It is a very tasty and sweet fruit with a sweet and sour taste. It does not take much time to digest in the stomach, it is a fruit that is easily and quickly digested. Raw plums contain about 11 percent carbohydrates, 86 percent water, one percent protein and one percent fat and one percent fiber. Therefore, it is also considered a low-calorie fruit. There are many varieties of plum. Mainly two varieties are Japanese plum and European plum. Japanese plums are large in size and juicy, they range from yellow to medium red in color. European plums are small and their color is dark blue or purple-red. Its tree is small and bushy, which ranges from about six feet to 15 feet.

Where is it found in the world
In India, it is cultivated in the states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir and Punjab. Its highest production in the world is in China. There are about 200 varieties of it found all over the world and its size ranges from amla to peach fruit. It is also eaten fresh as a fruit and after the season is over, it is also available in the market as a dry fruit all the time. Dried plums are called Prune Dry Fruit. Apart from India, this fruit is found in good quantities in the tropical and temperate zones of Australia, South America, Pakistan, Europe and Africa. It is very much liked in the US.
When to Eat Plums
It can be consumed at any time from morning to night. Just keep in mind that only one or two plums should be eaten in the whole day. You can also eat it by washing it with clean water and chewing it directly. After eating the pulp, a solid kernel comes out from inside which is not meant for eating.

Important nutrients like iron and potassium present in it help in keeping our immunity strong. Regular consumption of one or two pieces of plums during the season provides relief from constipation. Being a seasonal fruit, it is not available throughout the year, so when it is in season, eating one or two plums for a few days helps in keeping us healthy by cleaning all the dirt accumulated in the intestines due to the rich fiber present in it. If it is consumed continuously for seven days, then it cures even the most chronic constipation. A magical element called SORBITOL is present in plums, which helps in increasing the amount of water absorbed by the intestines. Due to which the stool deposited in the body becomes soft, making it easier to defecate.
